Everything you need to know
Clear answers about how My Pharmacist NB works, what it costs, and what to expect from your appointment.
Getting started
Visit your local participating pharmacy and ask your pharmacist about My Pharmacist NB. They'll triage you, treat what's within their scope, and, if you need more, book you a virtual appointment with a New Brunswick nurse practitioner on the spot.
A secure My Pharmacist NB account with your medical chart is created the first time you're referred, so you can access any and all of your appointments in one place.
Your pharmacist books it for you. See your pharmacist today: they triage you in person, treat what's within their own scope, and book the nurse practitioner appointment when one is needed.
This is by design: your pharmacist is your first point of contact, and they decide, together with you, whether an appointment with the NP makes sense.
Your My Pharmacist NB account holds your medical chart: appointment transcripts, Connected Care referrals, and lab requisitions, all in one place. It's created automatically the first time your pharmacist refers you.
You can log in any time afterward to review your own chart, and your Connected Care referral can be shared with all your primary care providers, if requested. Booking still happens through your pharmacist.
No. My Pharmacist NB is open to anyone visiting a participating pharmacy in New Brunswick, whether or not you have a family physician or nurse practitioner. You don't need a referral, and you don't need an existing relationship with a primary care provider to get Connected Care for refill management, a medical note, or care for a new symptom.
This makes the service especially useful for the many New Brunswickers who are between primary care providers or on a waitlist for a family doctor. Every nurse practitioner appointment is still with a clinician licensed in the province, working within their scope of practice.
Nurse practitioner appointments are available from 9 am to 6 pm, seven days a week. Your pharmacist books the appointment during those hours, and most are completed the same day.
Participating pharmacies keep their own opening hours, so check with yours before you go.
Cost
My Pharmacist NB charges a flat fee of C$79 per nurse practitioner appointment, whatever your pharmacist refers you for: refill management, a medical note, a lab requisition, or treatment. Your pharmacist lets you know before anything proceeds, so there are no surprises.
The fee covers the nurse practitioner appointment itself. It's separate from the cost of any medication, which depends on your own drug coverage and pharmacy.
No. The C$79 appointment fee is flat and fully disclosed before you proceed — there are no membership charges, booking fees, or add-ons. What you see up front is what you pay.
The only cost that sits outside the appointment fee is the price of a medication itself, which is set by your pharmacy and your drug coverage, not by My Pharmacist NB.
No. The flat C$79 covers the nurse practitioner appointment only. The cost of any medication is separate and depends on your own drug plan and the pharmacy that fills it.
When a refill is approved, it's sent electronically to the pharmacy you choose, and you pay the pharmacy for the medication as you normally would.
Your appointment
Your community pharmacist triages you first, working within their own scope of practice. If you need more than they can provide, they connect you with a nurse practitioner licensed in New Brunswick — an advanced-practice clinician authorized to assess, diagnose, and prescribe.
A real clinician is always involved. Your pharmacist and the nurse practitioner work in collaboration, and your pharmacist stays with you through the referral.
My Pharmacist NB renews many stable, long-term maintenance medications — the kind of ongoing prescriptions you've taken reliably and simply need continued. It renews prescriptions you already have; it doesn't start new medications.
Ask your pharmacist. After triage, they'll either renew it within their own scope or book a nurse practitioner who can. Some medications can't be renewed this way, including controlled substances and any medication that requires monitoring, an exam, or recent lab work. If yours isn't a fit, you'll be told and pointed toward the right option, such as your regular prescriber.
My Pharmacist NB provides simple notes that confirm a short absence from work or school. These are the straightforward notes an employer or educator typically asks for when you've been away briefly.
Notes that require a physical exam, or that certify something a clinician cannot reasonably verify remotely, aren't a fit. A nurse practitioner can only write what they can reasonably support, so being accurate about your dates helps them complete an appropriate note.
Yes. Your appointment and health information are encrypted and kept confidential, and My Pharmacist NB follows Canadian health-privacy standards for handling personal health information.
Your details are shared only with the clinicians involved in your care, and your information stays protected throughout the process.
Scope of care
My Pharmacist NB covers a wide range of care, starting with your pharmacist: Connected Care for refill management, medical notes, and diagnosis and treatment of new or worsening symptoms for certain conditions, within scope of practice. In some cases, at select pharmacies, your pharmacist is also able to order blood work, with a requisition generated for you.
Your pharmacist triages you first and treats what's within their own scope. If you need more, they refer you to a New Brunswick nurse practitioner and the two work in collaboration.
No. Controlled substances — including opioids, stimulants, and certain sedatives — cannot be refilled through My Pharmacist NB. These medications carry stricter safety and legal requirements this service isn't designed to meet.
This is a firm safety and regulatory boundary, not a case-by-case decision. For these prescriptions, your regular prescriber is the right route.
My Pharmacist NB is not for emergencies.
If you're experiencing a medical emergency or any urgent or life-threatening situation, call 911 or go straight to your nearest Emergency Department.
